A maximum of 32 roasters will be selected to compete at each show for the regional America's Best Espresso title.
The application deadline for Coffee Fest Atlanta 2015 is December 21, 2014.

ON-SITE COMPETITION

The America’s Best Espresso Competition venue will provide competing roasters with a choice of four espresso machines and two espresso grinders. Two Nuova Simonelli Aurellia II T3 and two Rancilio XCELSIUS, espresso machines will be available as well as both Rancilio and Nuova Simonelli espresso grinders. Competing roasters are welcome and encouraged to bring their own espresso grinder and tamper for use during their competition time. All of the demitasse cups are provided for the competition and are courtesy of Coffee Fest Hall of Exhibitor Fame Member Espresso Supply.

Once seeded within the tournament, each roaster will be scheduled for their Friday opening round competition time and match up. Each roaster will send their Barista with their coffee to pull three shots, one for each of the three judges using either of the the machines provided. Competitors will go head-to-head in a winner move on, loser goes home tournament competition. The competition will continue in this fashion all the way down to the sweet 16 on Saturday. The final four and championship final will take place on Sunday.

Roasters will have six minutes on Friday and ten minutes on Saturday and Sunday to prepare three espresso shots that will be submitted to the judging table of three carefully selected judges. Judges will be chosen from the field of Baristas competing in the Latte Art World Championship Open. Prior to the competition, judges culled carefully and then calibrated by Best Espresso Competition Calibration Sponsor; Café Imports.

Grading Criteria:
1) Flavor Complexity
2) Mouthfeel & Appeal
3) Aftertaste

The competition is designed to evaluate a roaster's coffee and in particular the roaster's single origin or espresso blend.
